Welcome all to this little blog I like to call The Word.
You might be asking yourself, “What exactly is The Word and why am I just hearing about this? Is the bird The Word? Is The Word a verb, noun or adjective? “
Well, I’ll set your minds at ease because I can see you all have so many questions. First off, The Word is none of the above.
A long time ago before twitter, Facebook and followers, there was a man, a computer and a dream. And that dream was to spread the gospel of truth with a twinge of sarcasm and a pinch of WTF and create the greatest pre- blog never heard of.
It started with one reader and a passionate cry to protest all things related to Ester Rolle. And once the first e-letter went out, the world shifted and the people cried “what is this thou has broughtest from the furthest reaches of the world? What is this called?”
And at that moment, in the winter of 1999, The Word was born.
It was irrelevant, irreverent and funny. The Word could be serious or it could tug on your heart strings. However, the most memorable thing The Word did was made people think and start discussions; sometimes passionate, fiery discussions.
It lasted for a year or so, and had I known there would be blogs and Twitter, I would have never let it fall by the wayside.
So here we are 11 years later and I couldn’t think of a better place to revive it than on bigbadsportsdaddy.com. And this time I want it to be even better than the last time.
And it will be.
The old format was random scatter shooting, maybe six to eight topics, that were meant to evoke thoughts and opinions.
Por ejemplo, I would throw out an occasional “Cliff Lee is probably better off in New York than in Texas because he does not make this team better.” Or “why do high schools, D-II and D-III schools, the NFL, the CFL, Pop Warner, flag teams and the arena league have playoffs, but D-I institutions can’t figure out how to have at least a top eight team playoff?”
Then I would move on and one of you would proceed to cuss me out because I didn’t explain. But that is not the point. The point is to get you to write to keep the conversations going. Get it?
Pretty cool, huh.
After we get that out of the way, we get to what Republicans call the red meat. The main story or thought that is permeating through my third eye that I’m sure will make you say “damn, he’s right.” (Warning: Damn he’s right is a typical response and any other responses may be cause for a re-read or self flagellation until the light is seen)
And in a nutshell, that is it.
Before I close this out, I’d like to thank everyone at BBSD for allowing me to become part of their family and I thank you for welcoming me into your mind and home.
Until we meet again….
